about
Teasing the band's new effort LION EATER, it was obvious from the onset that PURE RADIO HYMNAL was going to be a gloriously fun, different kind of album from the guys, more fully-produced than the stripped-down, largely-acoustic CHIVES. And with "Pure Radio Hymnal" itself, replete with dreamy guitars, hazy synths, and echoing radio voices, the band knew they were encroaching on new, exciting territory.
An astonishing 26 tracks were cut for this album, leaving only 12 on the main track listing. Thus, songs like the mournful instrumental "Sandals in the Snow" and the pounding, exotic "If You Murder Me, I'll Come Back As a King" showcase the band at their finest, and their most experimental. Continuing the band's tradition of helping discover fresh new voices, the undiscovered talent Daniel Demorest lends his considerable skills to a cover of a new track off of LION EATER itself: the stunning "Susan's Lampshade".
Thus, enjoy, good listeners.
